Create or Open a Check

The Create/Open Check command in the Point of Sale (POS) screen allows you to generate a new restaurant check, or view all open checks for one of your tables.

Select Create/Open Check from the Checks section of the Point of Sale Menu.

ALTERNATELY, if you are working a counter sale or bar or other type of food/beverage service and you do not need to select a table, restaurant or meal period, you can open a check using the Quick Sale command, skipping the initial screen altogether.

NOTE: The options available in the POS Check interface are determined by how the POS system is configured, and the options created for the system. If you are having trouble finding the items you need or configuring customer orders easily, contact your manager and/or system administrator. They may be able to adjust the POS configuration to provide more appropriate options.

The process for creating/opening a restaurant check consists of the following basic steps. Some or all of these selections may be available, depending on the POS configuration created for your property:

  1. Enter your Server ID. You cannot create a check or view open checks for your tables without a server ID number.
  2. Select the Meal Period. If your system has meal periods, this selection determines what menu items are available.
  3. Select the Restaurant for this check, if your property has multiple restaurants configured.
  4. Select the Section of the restaurant where the customers' table is located. Selecting a section limits which tables are listed. All will list all of the tables in the selected restaurant.
  5. Select the Table where the customers are seated. The Table list is color coded as follows:

After the table is selected, the screen changes to show the Restaurant Check screen, allowing you to enter the specific information and customer order information for the check.

NOTE: While this process creates a holding place for a new check, the check itself is not officially "open" until a menu item is posted to the check. If you close out of the Restaurant Check screen before posting a menu item, you will need to create a new check for the customer's order.
